How to connect to Owen's wireless network with an Ethernet cable
- Simply connect the provided Ethernet cable to any available data port. You may need to reboot your computer after establishing the connection.
- Things to check if you fail to gain a connection:
- Do you have a static IP assigned? If so, you must change this setting in the Network control panel under TCP/IP Properties. It must be set to "Obtain an IP address automatically."
- Do you have any firewall software installed? If so, turn it off.
How to add a networked place
Keep in mind that your Owen Networked places are on the Owen intranet, that is, these aren't web spaces, meaning that you can't get to them on the web or outside the Owen network. You can access these files from home if you have a Virtual Private Network (VPN) set up.
- Double click on My Network Places
- Click on "Add a Network Place"
- A Wizard will open, and click Next
- Select "Choose another network location"
- Type in the following:
- For public folders: \\file\public
- For the Walker Library folder: \\file\private\groups\walker library
- For your private folder: \\file\private\staff\your.name
