Associations UnlimitedHere information can be found on nonprofit membership organizations in all fields. It covers major international organizations and U.S. national, regional, state, and local organizations. Entries for each organization include contact information, descriptions of the organization, number of members, budget and other information. The database allows searching by association name, acronym, keyword in name, location, subject terms, SIC codes, etc. Trade associations in particular can be a very valuable resource for data about an industry. Check their descriptions to see if the association collects statistics or if they have a library that collects data. [more]
Bloomberg
Locate real-time and historical information on economic conditions, market data and public companies worldwide. Information is available on governments, mortgages, money markets, bonds, commodities, stocks, and currencies. This resource is used in most companies and institutions that manage equities, commodities, and currencies. Two dedicated Bloomberg terminals with full API capabilities which allow for custom downloading and creation of reports are available in the Walker Management Library and Owen Computer Lab. Online tutorials are available on the terminals and Bloomberg now offers certification in different financial management areas with tests that can be taken on the Bloomberg terminals. [more]

Business & Industry is a broad business information database that focuses on facts, figures, events and market information about companies, industries, products and markets. It covers all industries and is international in scope. B&I draws content from a large number of trade and industry publications, regional, national and international newspapers, business dailies and newsletters. This is a good database to search for recent events about a company or industry and tends to have very good coverage of marketing topics. It is also useful for finding information about regional company and industry news. [more]

Business Insights, formerly known as Reuter's Business Insight, provides market studies on 5 broad industry sectors: Consumer Goods, Energy, Finance, Healthcare, and Technology. Some reports are global while others are specific to a region. Each report, which varies in length from 50 to 200 pages, is compiled by in-house market analysts and provides forecasting to explore all major issues, threats and opportunities. The reports also provide incisive and actionable strategic recommendations. The majority of reports in this database are available for download through our subscription without additional charges. Prices included for the reports indicate the cost for non-subscribers. [more]

BSP provides coverage to virtually all subject areas related to business, including management, marketing, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. In addition to covering the major scholarly business journals, BSP also covers company reports, SWOT analyses, working papers, country reports, industry reports and other searchable categories like case studies, book reviews, product reviews, speeches, and interviews. This database is the exclusive online provider of many major journals like the Harvard Business Review, but it does not contain the fulltext of the Wall Street Journal (see Factiva for WSJ). [more]

Dunn & Bradstreet Key Business Ratios provides aggregated industry performance data by SIC codes on key financial ratios in specific industries. Data is gathered from company financial statements. This database provides the median, upper quartile and lower quartile ranges for financial performance within given asset ranges for each SIC code covered. It is widely considered an authoritative source on IT data, analysis and opinion. Hoover's has basic information on 12 million worldwide companies and in-depth profiles of more than 40,000 public and private companies. Basic company information comes from Dun & Bradstreet. Each Hoover's in-depth profile may include company description, historical profile, competitors, financials, products/operations, industry information, and biographies of executives. Mergent Online (formerly FIS Online) provides access to detailed corporate financial histories (including capital changes) and operational histories for international public companies. Mergent has company financial reports (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, and retained earnings reports) dating back 15 years/quarters and includes financial ratios. Mergent also provides company overviews, joint venture information, property descriptions, subsidiaries, officers/directors, long-term debt, and capital stock. Customized reports on a company or multiple companies can be created and data can be downloaded into Excel. The database also includes newswire headlines and annual reports (most recent 15 years). Standard and Poor's Net Advantage provides fulltext access to a variety of S&P publications including the electronic full text versions of the Standard & Poor’s Industry Surveys. Covers 52 different industries (usually the larger industries like Retail, Apparel and Footwear, Airlines, Computers, Biotech, Pharmaceuticals, etc) and the reports are updated every 6 months. The surveys contain information about current trends, how the industry operates, key ratios and statistics for each industry, and then how to analyze a company in a particular industry. The last section provides comparative financial data in tabular format for the top companies in the industry. Included are U.S economic data as well as the calendars for the next releases of key economic indicators, industrial and manufacturing data, consumer credit reports, exchange rates and other data collected and disseminated by the U.S. Government.
