How do I find print or electronic journals?
Journals include magazines, newspapers and some government publications. Journals are sometimes called periodicals or serials.
When you need to find out if a Vanderbilt University Library subscribes to or has access to a particular journal, start at the Walker Management Library’s homepage.
Searching in ACORN
You will need to search the library’s catalog called ACORN. A search box for ACORN can be found at the top of this website. Type the name of the journal in the search box and choose “Periodical title begins with” from the drop down menu of search choices.
A list with your “hits” will be displayed. Often the journal is listed twice in the catalog; one indicates the print copy the other electronic. Click on the appropriate selection and a record for that title will be displayed. At the top of the record click on the “Go to Call number, Holdings and Location”. This will tell you which of the Vanderbilt libraries has the print copies and volumes of the journal; or where it is located.
To find the electronic or online copy look for AVAILABLE ONLINE and the
button.
Click on the button and a new window will open indicating the database(s) where
the title is available online. Click on the database; you will then be re-directed
to the title with information on the years and issues available in that particular
database.
Electronic journal titles can also be found by using the E-Journal Locator
Here you can browse the A-Z List of All Electronic Journals or type in the
journal title you want to access. Once you find the journal title click on
the
and
a pop up window will appear giving the choices of databases or online journal
collections where you will find the full text of the journal online.
