Cynthia Kutka
Cynthia started at the Walker Management Library in February 2007 after a
successful career in private industry. Her experience includes work as a senior
management consultant with a major consultancy firm, the manager of business
and competitive intelligence research for a Fortune 500 financial services
company, and the director of professional services for an entrepreneurial software
development company. Cynthia holds a Master of Science in Management from the
Daniels College of Business, the University of Denver and a Master of Library
and Information Science, also from the University of Denver. Her undergraduate
degree, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, is from Virginia Commonwealth
University. Cynthia has lived and worked in a variety of countries, including
Italy, the Philippines, the UK, El Salvador, and Ecuador.
Summary of Job Responsibilities
Cynthia consults with students and faculty to assist with their information needs and provides individual and classroom instruction on library resources and business research techniques, including job and internship search assistance to Owen graduate students. Cynthia participates in the evaluation and selection of books, databases, journals and other materials for the Walker Management Library.

Cynthia’s research interests and areas of specialization include:

- Corporate social responsibility, business ethics, and values based leadership
- Human capital management , organizational development, and performance and reward systems
- Business management and operations consulting in law firms and corporate legal departments
- Data mining and text mining tools for developing business strategy and decision-making
- Academic library instruction and research services targeting international students
Publications, Presentations & Professional Involvement
Cynthia has been an active member of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) for many years, and was a founding member of both the Knowledge Management and the Competitive Intelligence Divisions of SLA. Cynthia also participates in the Business & Finance and Legal Divisions of SLA. Other professional activities include active participation in the Society for Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP), the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Division of the American Library Association (ALA), and Net Impact. Cynthia was nominated by the University of Denver faculty to the ΒΓΣ (Beta Gamma Sigma) business academic honor society and the ΒΦΜ (Beta Phi Mu) library science academic honor society.
