Evacuation Procedures
In the event an emergency situation of any type requires the Walker Management Library to be evacuated, follow the evacuation procedures below.
Notification to Exit
Occupants will be notified to exit the Library by any of the following methods:
- Fire alarm (alarm will sound and strobe lights flash)
- Verbal instruction
- Emergency personnel
- Self-evident hazardous conditions
Where and How to Exit
All persons must exit immediately through the nearest safe exit or exit stairwell. Do NOT use the elevators in an emergency! Emergency stairwells are located on both floors of the library in addition to the 1st and 2nd Floor main entrances.
- 1st Floor Emergency Exit: On the inside wall behind the Referece Collection and by the Study Rooms.
- 2nd Floor Emergency Exit: Directly above the 1st floor behind the circulating Stacks, next to the restrooms.
- Be aware of alternative exits in case the emergency exit stairwells are blocked.
- When evacuating, for safety, high heels should be removed. Use the handrails.
- Allow enough room between evacuees to allow for others to enter the traffic flow from another exit.
- In the case of non-weather related emergencies, all persons who have been evacuated will meet on the lawn between the Central Library and the Management Library. For severe weather emergencies (tornado), evacuees will meet in the upper level Owen parking garage (exit from emergency stairwells).
- No one re-enters the library/building until cleared by the police or the safety personnel who are at the scene.
