	This course will lower my grade point average, and I   won't be able to get in to won't be able to stay in will jeopardize   medical school. grad school. law school. the Peace Corps. the Supreme Court. my fraternity/sorority. the Micky Mouse Club. my home. my scholarship. my athletic eligibility. my auto insurance good student discount.
	I need an A in this course to balance out the F in   Math. Science. Underwater breathing.
	My preparation for the assignments was hampered.   I'm on a varsity sports team and my tutor couldn't find a copy of your exam. My fraternity/sorority lost the exam files. I am married. I work nights and weekends. I didn't come to class and the person whose notes I used did not cover the material asked for on the exam. My medication makes me very sleepy. Our band had to practice every night for a big gig. My cellmate had other plans for my time.
	Your grading did not accurately reflect my abilities.   I studied the basic principles and the exam wanted every little fact. I learned all the facts and definitions but your exams asked about general principles. I was thinking out of the box and you said I was just shooting the bull. You told us to be creative but you didn't tell us exactly how you wanted that done. The examination was unfair and unfairly distributed over the subject. I understood the material. I just couldn't do the problems. I can work the problems, but your exam expected intuition. I don't have a reason; I just want a higher grade.

	If I flunk out of school my   father mother wife husband boyfriend girlfriend boss deity will   disinherit me. cut my allowance. beat me. smite me. dump me. laugh.
	I was unable to do well in this course because of illness:   Mono. Pregnancy. VD. Fatherhood. Drug addiction. Hang nail. Acute alcoholism. Viagra side effects. Stress. Cognitive dissonance. Delirium tremens. Broken finger. I am intellectually challenged.
	The lectures were   too detailed to pick out important points. not explained in sufficient detail. too boring. all jokes and not enough material. so exciting, I forgot to take notes. too early, I was not awake. at lunchtime, I was hungry. too late, I was tired.
	My   dog cat gerbil   ate wet on threw up on was unavailable to write my   book. notes. paper.
	Also,   I lost the syllabus and didn't know when the exams were. I am sorry I have an average of less than 40. I've always got As before. I didn't study for your exam, but I learned sooooo much in your class! all of my other profs agreed to raise my grade. this mark grieved my mother and father, whose pride I am. what can I do for extra credit?

Other excuses here: It is not a higher mark I seek; I care nothing about marks. I think marks are wicked and I disapprove of them. However, this pernicious system of which I am a victim requires marks for achieving success and therefore, I seek a higher mark.
